Kinja'd!!!

So I have seen a lot of cars in my time of varying levels of awesomeness and I am rarely surprised or impressed in person by most things rolling. Factually speaking, I get more geeked about a rare oldie or never-imported-here piece of randomness.

Strangely enough, I was visually arrested by the passing of a Veyron the other day. First time I have seen one in the wild and it just looked (and sounded) impressive . It left an impression of purpose and solidity that I didn't think I would have gotten from seeing it live after all the news articles and videos, etc.

Question then for all my fellow Opponauts...what car has impacted you with it's presence in a way that surprised even such an ardent lover of the auto as yourself? Barring that, tell me whether my slightly jaded perspective on vehicles I've seen is merely just my issue and one that none of you share (I'm open to being the odd one out).

I will never forget the first time I saw and heard an L88 equipped Corvette roar to life. I was stunned at the rarity, noise and stance of the thing.

Not really sure if "car" is the right word for it, but the first time I saw Truckzilla eat a car and set it on fire, I was amazed. I was also 10 or 11 I think.

As for cars though. I find I spend more time staring at rat-rods and peoples odd backyard projects more than I do the hyper-exotics. I really like the exotics, but the rat-rods and just any really odd custom project tends to have more impact for me.

The car that surprised me the most is the first time I saw a Veyron in the wild just last year. * Disclaimer it was technically a car show but I could get within inches* I had never been a Veyron fan up until that point, seeing and digesting the car with my own two eyes left me in awe not to mention it looked especially good in matte white on a crisp summer morning. And then this year the owner appears to have upgraded to a Super Sport which I will share a photo (instagram won't let me download the picture of the "regular" Veyron)

Saw one of these at the AutoParts store. TG might have nice pictures, but the physical item in front of you..

Man.

Scheming how to get their home address, send them a voucher for a meal and free valet parking at a place not featuring valet parking. At least the meal voucher would be valid.

I figure oh, 80 miles by dessert?

Interestingly, I found the Veyron to be pretty dull when seen in the wild "proper". Sure it has its expensive cachet and impressive performance figures, but as a physical object it's easily lost in traffic.

I'm lucky enough to live in London, so it's easy to go walkies in certain areas and see plenty of high-end cars - both rolling and parked. The Veyron is so squat and burbles around so inoffensively (I've heard one drowned out by a Ferrari California), that they were a real let down. I was expecting more drama, but as someone who doesn't think much to the Veyron as a concept, the cachet had no effect and all I witnessed was a flattened VW Beetle that sounds like its idling when doing 30mph.

However, when I saw and heard that infamous turquoise Qatari Konigsegg, I proper flipped my nut.

The first time I saw a Veyron as well. I've loved the car ever since it debuted, ignoring what everyone else said about how ugly it looked, because just from the pictures I saw, I thought it was gorgeous. I've always been a sucker for cars with smooth features, and this fit the bill. My favorite car before this? Volkswagen Beetle. See the theme? Anyway, me and my family were taking a trip down to Florida one year, and I read online that in St. Petersburg, only a couple hours away from where we would be staying, would be having an event called the Festival of Speed going on at the same time we were down there. I was 12 years old then, and boy I got excited. But my Mother said we couldn't make it. A few days in, she surprised me with tickets in the morning. Once we headed down, we passed the event looking for parking. Through the thicket of exotic cars, i thought i saw the outline of a Veyron. I freaked out. Once we were parked, I rushed through masses of Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, Porsche's, you name it, to look for that car. After a few minutes of searching, I come across this.

This picture I took myself (albeit an iPod photo), and I was in shock. A carbon fibre finished blue Veyron, Super Sport no less. That day was one of the best days of my life, and I hope to see one of these automotive masterpieces again. Owning one wouldn't be too bad either...

It seems odd that a Bentley Continental R Mulliner would grab me, but it did. I was trying to think of ways to come up with $100k. It had true presence. And the one I saw was in a sea of Ferraris. I cannot explain it, but my heart still beats faster when I see one.

I saw one of these at a grocery store when I was about 14, it was amazing and stunning. Still the only one I've seen in the wild. I also followed an old 50's bathtub Porsche around Kalamazoo, it was magnificent
